English Exercises to Improve Your Proficiency with Do and Does Verbs

Do you find yourself struggling with using the correct form of "do" and "does" in English?
You're not alone! These verbs can be tricky, but luckily there are plenty of exercises that can help improve your proficiency. In this post, we'll share some exercises that will have you confidently using "do" and "does" like a native speaker in no time. So, let's get started!

Do & Does Verbs
English verbs come in many forms. The two most common are the do verb and the does verb. Both of these verbs have different uses and functions.

The do verb is used to describe an action that is taking place. For example, “I do the dishes every night.” In this sentence, the word “do” is describing the action of doing the dishes.
The does verb is used to describe a state of being. For example, “She does not like spinach.” In this sentence, the word “does” is describing the state of not liking spinach.

Negative Sentences with Do and Does
When using do and does in negative sentences, you need to add the word not after do or does. For example,

I don't play tennis.
He doesn't work here.
We don't live in New York.
They didn't see the movie.

Do and does are used to make questions. To make a question with do or does, you need to put the subject after do or does. For example,
Do you like chocolate?
Does he speak French?

Both "do and does" verbs can be used in a variety of tenses. The present tense, past tense, and future tense are all possible with both verbs. However, there are some tenses that can only be used with one verb or the other. For example, you cannot use the do verb in the present progressive tense (I am doing) – you must use the does verb instead (she is doing).
