Singular and plural nouns
Singular and plural nouns change in English language. Most nouns have a regular plural, but there are exceptions.
Regular nouns
Most singular nouns form the plural by adding -s.
Examples

boat boats
fruit fruits
house houses
cat cats
river rivers
A singular noun ending in s, x, z, ch, sh in the plural, they changes to -es

A singular noun ending in a consonant y, in the plural the y changes to -ies

Irregular nouns
There are some irregular noun in the plural. The most common ones are listed below
Some nouns have the same form in the singular and the plural.

sheep sheep
fish fish
deer deer
species species
Some nouns have a plural form but take a singular verb : news, athletics
The news starts at eight in the evening.
The athletics is in the new stadium.
but some nouns have a fixed plural form.
They are not used in the singular :
trousers, jeans, glasses, stairs, goods
My glasses are expensive but my jeans are even more expensive
