AirCar has first test flight in Slovakia

A flying car built by Klein Vision successfully completed its first test flight at Piestany Airport in Slovakia in late October.

The Slovakian company released a video showing its vehicle, called the AirCar, changing from a car to an aircraft and flying from the airport, which is 90 kilometers northeast of the capital, Bratislava. It was part of 50 hours of flight tests planned for the vehicle.

The company said that the AirCar flew up to 450 meters in the air and completed two takeoffs and landings at the airport.

The AirCar has two seats and the driver can push a button inside the car to unfold its wings. The vehicle can change from a car to an aircraft in under three minutes, according to the company.

It says the vehicle can take off within 300 meters, fly up to 200 kilometers per hour and travel for about 1,000 kilometers at a time.

The company hopes to make the vehicle available to buy in 2021. It also said it is looking to create three- and four-seat AirCars, and has plans for a flying car that can also be used on water.

Other companies around the world are also trying to create a flying car. In 2016, Airbus began working on a flying taxi called the CityAirbus.

Porsche and Boeing also announced that they were working together on an electric flying car in 2019.
