English Thanksgiving | A Story of Hope

Thanksgiving is a national holiday that is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. On this day people give thanks for the blessing of the harvest.

Thirty-eight English settlers aboard the ship Margaret arrived by way of the James River at Berkeley Hundred in Virginia on December 4, 1619.

They declared " that the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned for plantation in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God"

The original holiday has been commemorated every year since the mid-20th century at Berkeley Plantation, which is now the ancestral home of the Harrison family

George Washington, the President of the United States proclaimed the first thanksgiving celebration nationwide in America on November 26, 1789.
He called on Americans to "unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions"
